This turtle is sick, so it has a 3D printed protective shell

From duck boats to sports stadiums, these tourist activities are popular for a reason.

Be careful! Never step on Cleopatra.

Yes, you think you’re seeing a “model turtle”, but it’s actually a live little turtle in a red shell! Unfortunately, this turtle named Cleopatra suffers from hypertrophic shell due to malnutrition, and has several wounds on its back shell, which are very susceptible to infection, especially during this breeding season, when male turtles climb on the back of female turtles. …

A very caring student at Colorado Tech, Roger Henry, took the initiative to design a protective case for Cleopatra. With the help of software, Henry used the Denver 3D Printing Store to scan Cleopatra’s body to obtain specific “shell size data”. It took a total of 600 hours of research and design time to ensure that the 3D printed shell could fit perfectly with the turtle’s body.

Henry then used “plastic made from corn” (a type of biodegradable material) to finally 3D print this “new shell” for the cute turtle. It is reported that the service life of this “printing shell” is quite a few years. It not only protects the body, but also makes Cleopatra look different and more confident~
