This dog once saved 40 lives, but was eventually shot to death

Today I’m going to tell you about a dog that has suffered because of its looks. That’s the sad Saint Bernard. First of all, let me tell you the origin of this dog’s name. Everyone may know the Alps, where the ancestors of this dog originally existed as rescue dogs. Why isn’t it called an alpine dog? The name sounds a little funny. Ahem, seriously, there is also a place called St. Bernard Pass, and a monastery called St. Bernard. So, that’s how St. Bernard got its name.

And in the cold Alpine mountains, they are like a warrior, guarding one climber after another. St. Bernards have been widely used as rescue dogs since the mid-17th century. According to statistics, so far, St. Bernard dogs have saved more than 2,700 lives. Among them, a rescue dog named “Black Mask” once saved 40 lives. However, in a particularly tragic time, the dog was mistaken for a wolf, was shot and died in 1814.

The Saint Bernard is known as the national dog of Switzerland and has a long history. With its tall stature, it is one of the largest dog breeds in the world. Their heads are strong, with pricked ears when alert, and a subtle fold on the forehead above the eyes. In terms of coat color, the chest, paws and tip of the tail are preferably white. St. Bernards are kind of wise and stupid dogs. As rescue dogs, their characters are certain and gentle, and their temperament is also very good, so now St. Bernards have also become pet dogs. But dogs like the St. Bernard have a bad memory for things they don’t like and move extremely slowly. When it comes to the most classic image of St. Bernard, it is a wooden barrel with a red cross logo hanging around its neck. Although this is what it looks like at work.
